Event photography...better late than never!

My blog has been a bit neglected recently to say the least. I’ll not bore you with everything I’ve been up to since my last blog entry, just the main points of interest.

I recently just returned from a trip to Amsterdam which was a great mix of business & pleasure. I was there visiting a friend and to enjoy Kings Day 2017 which is a fantastic occasion. Kings Day is a national holiday to celebrate the King of the Netherlands birthday where everyone dresses up in orange and there are street parties all across the country. As an event photographer I of course took my camera to try and capture the spirit of the day. I also captured some great street photography and live music gigs whilst I was there. You can see a few of these photos in the Events section of my website or visit my Facebook page for the full album.

On my first day in Amsterdam I also visited the Canon Press Photo exhibition at De Nieuwe Kerk which showcases the most iconic photos from the past year. Due the various problems in the world most of the photos are very hard hitting, emotional and leave a lasting impression which is exactly what a photo should do.

Back home in Edinburgh I was fortunate enough to be hired as an event photographer for an internal event showcasing how Ardbeg can be used in cocktails. Ardbeg is one of my favourite whiskies so I didn’t need to think twice about doing it. The event was fantastic and was a great mix of both event & cocktail photography and I was luckily enough to be given a complimentary bottle at the end of the event.

Although I am a freelance photographer I have been working on an ongoing contract with the Compass Group in Edinburgh. In addition to Sygn Bar, The Westroom, Monteiths, Chop House Leith & Market St. the group is opening a new restaurant in Edinburgh, the White Horse Oyster & Seafood Bar in Summer. I’m sure the name gives away what style of restaurant it will be and I have been taking a few initial food & cocktail photos for the upcoming press release. You can follow the progress of the White Horse on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.

That’s the main points covered for now I think.

Cheers
